You have probably heard us banging on about Liberty on social media. Some of you
might even ask, are we referring to our favorite London store or to something else?
We are of course, referring to the fabric, namely, the Tana Lawn, sporting their priceless prints, a fabric that we love and use often. The fabric is of course an
integral part of the London store, and they share a common history. Liberty London
is a cult London store, situated on Regent Street, so we somehow prefer entering
from Great Marlborough Street, founded in 1875 but the adventurous Arthur Lasenby
Liberty. Wanting to emulate a ship docking on the streets of London, the store did
become the place where art and desirable objets created the illusion of voyage
curated collections that adorned many Victorian drawing rooms. "I was
DETERMINED NOT to FOLLOW EXISTING FASHIONS but to CREATE NEW
ONES" is a phrase that is very dear to our hearts, as indeed, we try to do the same.
From tailored pyjamas with delicate piping, luxurious robes that would become a
future heirloom and get softer with time, do divine intimates mixing the exquisite
prints with upcycled laces and recycled mesh, even underwired balconette bras,
showcasing the print to its full potential, draped over a cut&sewn bra cup.
"LIBERTY is the CHOSEN RESORT of the ARTISTIC SHOPPER"and don’t we
agree with that enfant terible of yesteryear, Oscar Wilde. Walking into Liberty in the
late 90-ties, we came across the most mesmerising mix of heritage prints, a touch of
Aubrey Beardsley, a touch of Archibald Knox, a smattering of Shelley Fox’s felt
creations, Emma Cook sweaters and the most rock’n’roll fitted Alexander McQueen
snakeskin jacket. We were hooked…Forever…Our Mitsuko comes from there, our
Issey Miyake pleats come from there…And above all, our cottons come from there.
This season we have used the divine English Rose print. We chose it in the most
delicate candyfloss pink for the intimates and a delicious duck egg blue for the
nightwear.
As we love to clash these prints, we added a highlight of scented in the most
delicious deep teal shade.
These will undoubtely be your favourite pieces this season. You can browse our
gallery of SS21, AW21 and SS22 and admire our archive creations as a testament of
our undying love for Liberty Tana Lawn. So, what are our all time favourites?
Ianthe
Originally devised as a wallpaper border in c. 1902 by French artist René Beauclair,
Ianthe was first printed for Liberty in 1967 as part of the decade's revival of ornate
Art Nouveau styles.
Theodora
Theodora was created by artist Josephine Gomersall in collaboration with the Liberty
in-house design team. Hand-drawn and finished with watercolour, Josephine’s wild
floral landscape is repeated to portray successful styles within Liberty Print history,
and was originally created to represent the Liberty Print Room on the third floor.
Strawberry Thief
The Strawberry Thief borrows its name from the 1883 print design, produced for
Liberty of London by the notable William Morris. Morris was a founding and
prominent member of the celebrated Arts and Craft movement, and the Strawberry
Thief print remains one of Liberty's most iconic and popular prints.
Is there any wonder why we are head over heels in love with Liberty? We hope you
will be equally besoted by our creations this season xx
