A long, lost Amsterdam rainy Saturday afternoon in the Hermitage in Amsterdam, inevitably leads to the works of Rembrandt Rijn or Ferdinand Bol…The clean and modern lines of the museum, make the Dutch 17th century masterpieces appear covered by a patina of history, warped time, some quantum cobwebs and add a somnambulistic and mystical layer to the already complex chefs-d’oeuvre. Mainly commissions of wealthy Dutch merchants, the paintings mainly depict biblical and mythical scenes with one thing in common…I most of the paintings, among the somber Rembrant-esque browns and anthracites, there is an unusual center piece. An opulent piece of cloth or a garment depicting the merchant’s wealth, beautifully painted in a vivid color, a bold symbol of prosperity. To us, these pieces of fabric were the stars of the show and the inspiration behind our new collection “
