New York Diaries 1

Every journey in our household starts with an obstructive cat. This time round it was Lucifer’s turn to roll over the passport and boarding pass and try and prevent the imminent departure that was looming.

The enormous excitement as a result of our return at Curve NYC physically, (in February only our samples were there) worked us up into a right frenzy. Outfits were planned, samples inevitably delayed for a last-minute delivery and for once, the queue at JFK relatively manageable (thank you, new machines vs handwritten landing cards). Landing in a hot New York Thursday afternoon, after a day of travel is of course always a delight (: A massive taxi queue and a scorching drive to Manhattan, took us to hotel Aliz, an unexpected gem, as it now houses a Dear Irving on the 40th floor. As every young brand though, it was the Farm to Burger special that was more pocket friendly. We got some vouchers from the lovely receptionist and the meal was practically a freebie, so fortified with beef it was off to the room for an early night and to meet the oh so suave Raphael Camp, the show director of Curve. Super excited to announce we will be a part of shaping the show’s future for Autumn/Winter 2025 and beyond. Elated after a lunch at Smith’s (we do love an expense account) we were all braced for set up day. We can quite happily say that we did have the most beautiful booth at Wonderland in London, so how would we fair with the challenge of transatlantic travel? The answer was, painstaking dedication and some strategic Amazon. The result? Utter, utter English whimsy (though under a Dutch flag):

What was the idea? Well, an English tea party with Liberty tana lawn, some delectable mix and match cups and lingerie instead of cupcakes. Little birds held up the lingerie hangers attached to climbing rose trellis’. It was a wonderful solution and something to behold. We got sooo many compliments and being locked up in our Amsterdam space, we have forgotten what it feels like to be in front of so many “hoomans”…

Saturday saw us taking a well-deserved trip to Soho. Our new stockist Wolf&Badger has the most delectable space in Soho. We have decided to be a part of their retail space too, so roll on November! SOO exciting!

As we wound our way from Grand to Prince and then to Elizabeth, proudly carrying our Wolf&Badger Rescued Paper Note Book, in which hopefully, our future will be written, we had to go into Malin+Goetz, one of the most underrated fragrance and beauty brands when it comes to us Europeans. We were spritzed in the now (sadly) defunct Barney’s in the Americana in Glendale all those years ago and we were hooked (and still are). Dark Rum is our signature fragrance, together with Replica Margiela Sicilian Lemon and Matiere Premiere Santal Austral, so a purchase had to happen! Also, a cannabis scented roll on was just the ticket for behind the ears. Now for the biggest challenge of all? WHAT TO WEAR! The first day of the show was looking promising!
